A 100-bed HCA hospital would be the centerpiece of a 3 million-square-foot development on Nova Southeastern University’s main campus in Davie, Fla.
The nonprofit university and the hospital giant (NYSE: HCA) announced plans for the hospital on Monday. NSU President and CEO George L. Hanbury II noted that this would be the only academic research hospital in Broward County, and it would open the door to the mixed-use Academical Village on its campus. That project is expected to have a $4 billion economic impact and create 5,000 jobs, he added.
Plans for the hospital have allowed NSU to set a January start date for construction of its $80 million Center for Collaborative Research, a 220,000-square-foot facility that will contain wet labs, a genomics center and biotech incubator space. Commercial lab space in Broward is sorely lacking now.
